Summer Jazz Picnic 2020

Summer Jazz Picnic welcomes the New Year with a bang, the Annual Picnic returns for it's 6th edition on the 28th March 2020 location details to be announced soonest. 🎺

The event celebrates the indigenous Jazz music and culture of Cape Town and South Africa, so the music encompasses every style associated with the city and the country: blues, R&B, Afro-Caribbean, Cape Jazz, Latin Jazz, Marimba and everything in between, both contemporary and traditional.

As the sunsets they kick start the Old School Party with the DJ's taking you back to the days where Paisley Shirts and Bell Bottoms were cool, which leaves all patrons asking "when's the next one". The event is filled with family favourite Old School hits from the 70’s and early 80’s with flashbacks to the heritage songs of the 60’s.

So bring along your Picnic Basket, Camping Chairs, Picnic Blankets, Mini Portable Braai and positive spirit for a day of braaing, family fun and great jazz music.

They will be adding a communal braai area so bring along your mini portable braai's.

A fully licensed bar will provide the essentials you need to keep yourself cool including chasers and ice. Cooler boxes filled with food only allowed.

Johannesburg Afro-Latin Festival 2020

Afro-Latin dance and music is dynamic and globally evolving. There are communities in the far corners of the world promoting and developing a plethora of music and dance styles with roots firmly in Africa.

There is also an increasing international interest in Afro-Beat music, for example, and African dance styles, providing a natural opportunity to explore the 'Afro' in 'Afro-Latin'. In Johannesburg and around South Africa there is a significant and growing Afro-Latin social dancing and music scene with many organisations and companies offering classes, events and performances as well as musicians, bands and specialist DJs.

The festival will start out with a launch event taking place early in March featuring:

  • Two official socials/parties with DJs, Live band (13th & 14th March)
  • Pre-party (12th March)
  • After-party
  • Dance showcase / performances
  • Workshops and seminars by local and international artists

The event aims to be an enlightening and entertaining experience for local and international guests, focusing on salsa, bachata, kizomba and Afro-beat initially, and an opportunity to learn more about the provenance and development of these genres and styles.

They look forward to welcoming DJs, dancers and musicians from near and far.

Afro-Latin Festival brings international salsa band Tromboranga to South Africa

Acclaimed international salsa band Tromboranga will play in Africa for the first time, adding South Africa to their 2020 world tour, as part of the Johannesburg Afro-Latin Festival’s ‘Carnival Sunday at Melrose Arch’. Tromboranga is full salsa orchestra whose speciality is their special trombone section and sound. Led by Joaquin Arteaga who hails from Venezuela, and calling Barcelona home, the band members are Cuban, Venezuelan, Colombian and Spanish. They will play two sets at 14:00 and 16:30 on Sunday 15 March as part of the four-day festival event, and Carnival Sunday activities including the concert, drumming and dance taster workshops and performances, are free to the public.

Hollard Daredevil Run 2020

Woza Boza! Hollard are running cancer outta town once again for the 10th anniversary of the Hollard DareDevil Run.

The brave and ballsy will bare it all (well, almost all…) in this 5km fun run, during Joburg peak hour traffic. Armed with purple speedos, men across the country will join in the brotherhood of raising awareness about testicular and prostate cancer.

Opening of the Francophonie Festival 2020

Things are getting really hot with some great events planned and a truly spectacular opening event at CrawfordSchools.

The annual Francophonie Festival, launched in 2010, is a platform available to Embassies, Institutions, Francophone and Francophiles in Pretoria for the promotion of French cultural and linguistic diversity.

The festival is a great way to learn about other cultures and explore the creative artistry of the many countries that speak French. Since 2010, more than 25 countries have collaborated each year to present an array of experiences all rooted in the Francophone cultures – from Africa to the Americas to Asia to the Middle East.

Each year more than two thousand visitors, of all ages and all backgrounds, join us in celebrating the Francophonie. Come and participate at Crawford College, on the opening day Saturday, March 7 2020 and/or during an evening dedicated to a francophone country.

Super Hero Family Festival Pretoria

Super Hero Family Festival 14th to 15th March 2020 at Heartfelt Arena, Pretoria is an event for Families who are fond of Super Heros. The event is a perfect platform for super hero lovers to dress up in their favourite super hero costumes. The event will have amusement rides, robot costumes, food stalls, markets, children’s crafts, kids clothing etc.

Everyone is welcome to attend the super hero festival. Our state of the art rides and fascinating robot costumes will leave the whole family with unforgettable memories.

There will be two adventure sessions per day, an admission ticket will be valid for only one 4hour adventure session. These will be as follows.
