Open Streets City Centre

Open Streets Days are a local programme inspired by Colombia’s Ciclovía. The concept is to close down a street temporarily so that it becomes car-free. It’s a chance for people to reclaim streets as public space, for walking, cycling, skating, playing, exploring and general socialising. Open Streets suspends reality and allows us to imagine a new “normal” for our streets.

Join Cape Town residents to walk, cycle, skate, play, dance, explore and connect with neighbours, friends and family on a car-free Bree Street. Leave your car at home and join the movement to experience streets differently! #StreetsForPeople #ItsYourSpace #CarFree

This will be the fourth time Bree Street hosts Open Streets (since 2015), and the day falls in the middle of the Open Streets 2018-19 season. The series kicked off in October Transport Month in Woodstock, followed by Bellville in November, and will continue in February in Langa and March in Mitchells Plain (the last Sunday of each month).
