Vortex Parallel Universe

On the South African music scene, there are few names more representative of a good time than Vortex. It’s a name that’s constantly mentioned, that builds up excitement, so pop your tent up and take on the trance world with full force.

Vortex Parallel Universe takes place this April over the course of three highly-fueled days. Camping facilities, lavatories, and medics are available at the event, and a good time is mandatory!

Parklife Festival

The annual Parklife Music and Gourmet Street Food Festival returns for its third year at the Green Point Stadium fields. There will be live entertainment to keep you on your feet all day.

Museum Night

Explore the museums of central Cape Town in a new light- after dark. All museums offer free admission and are within walking distance of each other.

Museum Night is an initiative of Thursdays Projects in collaboration with Iziko Museums of South Africa as founding partners. Head out and enjoy light snacks and drinks while taking in the varied wonders of human existence.

Pinotage & Biltong Festival

Come and indulge in two of South Africa's favourite delicacies: Pinotage and biltong!

For each tasting, a wide range of biltong products will be paired with specific wines from 20 of SA's top Pinotage producers. Guests can taste and buy some of the best red Pinotage or have fun with alternative styles of this grape variety such as rosé, bubblies, blends, and even a white Pinotage!

Tickets include a branded crystal wine glass and a pairing card for the free Pinotage and Biltong tastings.

The event is family-friendly with live music, food trucks, light meals and casual seating. The charity beneficiary is the Pebbles Project, members of whom will be present to entertain the kids and raise funds for their many worthy projects. Monark Live @ Franschoek Cellar

Catch Monark performing an acoustic show at this incredible new venue in the heart of the Cape Winelands.

Monark, celebrated for their originality and innovative contribution to the South African music scene, have made a name for themselves as one of the hottest and most versatile local groups.

Having dominated the South African airwaves with their first 2 singles, Smiling (5FM Top 3) and Build It Up (5FM Top 5, and #1 on Jacaranda FM, Highveld/KFM, Algoa FM, OFM), they also released their 3rd single, Something, in the build up to the launch of their debut album Negatives.

The gorgeous venue only enhances Monark's soul-stirring tunes, promising to make for a day rich in feels. This is a family-friendly occasion, so bring along the kids and come enjoy some splendid live entertainment.

Midnight Circus with Miyagi and Seth Schwarz

The goal of this event is to give you a night like you've never experienced before, by combining top class DJs and a fully functional circus into one production.

In terms of the South African festival scene, very little comes close to the sheer magnitude of this event. Every year, there’s a kind of buzz going on as preparation for this event gets underway! Festival goers tend to prepare months in advance for "The Burn".

Costumes galore, massive tented areas, costumes galore, massive tented areas, artworks and a wide range of acoustic and electronic music - all self-organised by camps themselves and featuring no headliners - is on offer.

The SA Cheese Festival is the biggest outdoor culinary event, and takes place in April 2017. Cheese remains the jewel in the festival crown, and the selection ranges from well-known brands to unique artisan cheeses.

Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival

Join the annual celebration weekend-long festival known for exceptional cool climate wine, delicious country fare and outdoor entertainment.

Below we have compiled a list of the biggest events reaching the shores of Cape Town this May.

Bongalong Cannabis March

This is the annual meeting and peaceful protest against the current regulations against marijuana. Attendees are invited to join like-minded people to have their voices heard. Protestors often dress up as weed-related characters to grab attention.

Come out and witness legislation being changed by the people it governs.

Sunset Colour Run

The Sunset Run is excited to announce a brand new format for their very popular event. The existing Sunset Run format will continue as before (one hour to try and beat the setting sun); in addition they are now launching the Sunset Colour Run!

Option 1: The goal to beat the sun, the route is 6 km long. However, you can attempt to complete the route as many times as possible before the sun sets, making it potentially a 6km, 12km, or even 18km route.

Option 2: Contestants pass through 3 different colour stations, which spans a 4 km route. If this option is selected, contestants will be littered in colourful powder and definitely not arrive at the finish line looking the same.

Dress up in the craziest costume you have and join in on the active fun this May.

Franschoek Literary Festival

The first Franschhoek Literary Festival took place in 2007 with two main objectives:

  • To bring together a broad cross-section of mostly South African writers and a few distinguished authors from overseas, aiming to present quality events that inspire and inform.
  • To raise funds for local community and school libraries, for which the FLF Library Fund was established.

The Festival runs from Friday to Sunday during the third weekend in May, preceded by the Book Week for Young Readers. The events take place in village venues within a few minutes' walk of each other, which creates a vibrant ambience in streets buzzing with book-lovers.

The emphasis is on informal discussions and spirited debates between several writers with a chairperson, or one-on-one conversations, and occasional talks. Fringe events include literary and publishers' dinners, writing workshops, a school spelling bee, and classical music concerts.

Cab Franc Carnival 2017

The Cabernet Franc Carnival Cape Town event will take place at Avontuur Estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Taste and buy the wines directly from the wineries, enjoy live entertainment, food trucks and food stalls.

Visitors can also book for one of three tutored tastings of the Top 6 wines of the 2017 Cabernet Franc Challenge, presented by head of the 2017 judging panel and Cape Wine Master, Christine Rudman. Tickets for the tutored tasting costs R75pp extra and only three sessions of 20 persons each can be accommodated. The very popular public "vote" to choose the favourite wine of the day, will once again take place which will give an interesting perspective on the differences between expert and amateur palates.

International Day Of Yoga 2017

Since 2014, International Day of Yoga has been celebrated on 21 June and is acknowledged by the United Nations. People all around the globe will celebrate the gift of yoga on that day and we will also participate in this international yoga party.

Yoga is about union, so let’s bring all the different yoga communities in Cape Town and surrounding areas together to practice as one. There will be two sessions to choose from.
