Synopsis

Tchindas is one of the most beloved woman in cape Verde, especially after she came out as a transgender person in the local newspaper in 1998. Since then, her name has become the term used by local to name any queer Cape Verdeans. Despite her great reputation, she remains humble and every afternoon, she happily tours the neighbourhood to seel her “coxinhas”, a classic treat of fried balls of chicken. But every February everything changes. It’s now the month leading up to Carnival, when the slow-paced atmosphere of the island transforms into frenzied hustle and bustle as thousands flock to the streets. This documentary film is a trip to an unknown side of Africa that very few may have imagined ever existed.
