The annual Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts lineup for 2018 and 2019 has just been released and we're just as excited about it as you are! With three international acts and a handful of local talent taking to the stage, this summer is going to sizzling!

This years addition will feature several old favourites including Mango Groove, Mi Casa, Lira, and Goldfish to mention a few.

Tresor / Majozi | 18 Nov

Majozi is a proudly South African musician who has recently emerged onto the scene from the coastal city of Durban. At the age of thirteen, he started to teach himself guitar, which eventually led to him studying a foundation course in jazz and popular music at the University of KwaZulu Natal.

Over the past year, Majozi has been steadily climbing the South African music ladder, getting the opportunity to open for Matthew Mole, Gangs of Ballet, Zebra and Giraffe, Mango Groove and international artist, Yoav.

Tresor (French for "treasure" and pronounced "Trezor"), born Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki is an award winning and multi platinum selling DRC born singer-songwriter-producer currently based in South Africa. Tresor's first language is Music but he is also fluent in English, French and Swahili. His songs reflect a peregrine of life shared by so many on the continent of Africa, but few are able to express their experiences in a way that captures the ear so universally and directly.

Mango Groove | 25 Nov

Mango Groove is an 11 piece Afropop group formed in 1984 in Johannesburg, South Africa by John Leyden and fronted by lead singer Claire Johnston.

They have sold more than 1.5 million albums in South Africa alone, mostly with popular hits like "Dance Some More", "Special Star", "Hometalk" and "Nice To See You".

Lady Zamar / Black Motion | 2 Dec

Yamikani Janet Banda, or more famously known as Lady Zamar, is an African singer, songwriter, philanthropist and businesswoman.

Hailing from Thembisa in the East Rand and raised in Pretoria, this powerhouse incorporates African house music with a soulful tone and amazing stage presence.

Mi Casa | 9 Dec

The music industry is nothing new to Mi Casa, the band producer Dr. Duda has been in the industry for over fifteen years, producing and DJ'ing alongside the likes of DJ Fresh, DJ Mandla, DJ Mbuso and making hit tracks featuring talented vocalists such as RJ Benjamin, J-Something and Zodwa amongst many others.

J-Something is a talented songwriter, vocalist, and masters the guitar. This sensation began reading music at the tender age of eleven when he first started playing the guitar.

Mo-T is the band’s trumpeter; he oozes with talent and lives his life through music. This talented young man comes from a musically rooted family and this is where the music bug bit him.

Boney M featuring Liz Mitchell | 23 Dec

Originally based in West Germany, the four original members of the group's official line-up include Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett from Jamaica, Maizie Williams from Montserrat and Bobby Farrell, a Dutch performer with Aruban ancestry.

The group formed in the disco era, since then they have been a household name and have become a beloved Christmas music choice for most homes in South Africa.

Lira | 30 Dec

Lira is a multi-platinum award winning South African singer/songwriter. She has graced the covers of numerous fashion and lifestyle magazines and won a multitude of accolades from The South African Music Awards, MTV Africa Awards, Channel O Awards to name a few.

She has 6 Studio Albums, 3 Concert DVD's, an Autobiography, and has just released her first independent studio album - Born Free.

Jeremy Loops / Crimson House | 31 Dec

Jeremy Loops perfectly captures the duality of his South African life. Loops debuted at #1 on iTunes in South Africa with his debut album Trading Change. He headlined major festivals, and maintained #1 on the three most prominent radio stations in Southern Africa with "Down South", his breakout single.

This South African success was followed by top 40 iTunes debuts in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom. Down South has since amassed more than 20 million streams on Spotify alone, and charted on Spotify UK's viral 50.

Crimson House is a multi-genre gypsy cabaret group that combine a number of styles including ska, Afro blues, hip hop, and rock. South Africa’s Crimson House has become a festival and club favourite with their high energy interactive live performances becoming that of legends. They formed in 2010 and have since released 3 albums.

Goldfish | 6 Jan

The secret is officially out. An electronic duo from the Southern-most tip of Africa have gone from one of dance music’s best kept secrets to an act tipped by industry tastemakers as the band to watch this year.

Their genre-defying mix of live instruments, house beats and searing live performances has seen Goldfish go from impromtu jams at a tiny beach club in Cape Town to headlining Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium, cracking a top 10 on the US iTunes Dance chart, a residency at Pacha Ibiza with David Guetta and DJ’s like Fedde le Grand knocking at their door to do remix their tracks.

It’s almost hard to believe that not very long ago they were just Dom and Dave, two music students who lived a relatively chilled life of surfing and playing music in their home town, Cape Town.

The Parlotones | 13 Jan

The Parlotones are a proudly South African Indie Rock band, who has made waves internationally!

When The Parlotones met in 1998 in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, little did they know that they would go on to write one of the greatest Rock ‘n Roll stories South Africa had ever seen.

The Parlotones clan include Kahn Morbee, Neil Pauw, and brothers Glen and Paul Hodgson. Formed in 1998, they have achieved massive success in their home country of South Africa, as well as success in various international markets.

The Soil | 3 Feb

Meet The Soil, a 4-member acapella singing group whose music can best be described as ‘Kasi Soul’. The Soil strives to fuse their voices to deliver melodic and harmonious messages that are aimed at uplifting and healing souls all around the world.

The first member of the group exists in a spiritual form as The Creator of all. The other three members of the group take a physical form: Buhlebendalo Mda, Luphindo Ngxanga, and Ntsika Fana Ngxanga, who are occasionally also supported by two backing vocalists, Asanda and Tshwarelo.

Fokofpolisiekar | 10 Feb

Fokofpolisiekar was formed in 2003 when a group of friends from Bellville (South Africa) decided to start an Afrikaans rock band.

In the 14 years since their inception, they have reached cult status in their home country and Fokofpolisiekar has become a household name. They have become known for their explosive live performances and through their controversial and ever-questioning lyrics have generated much controversy in the South African media.

In contrast to this Fokofpolisiekar has, however, garnered accolades from the Afrikaans literary community for the powerful conveyance of their intelligent, poetic and honest-to-the-bone lyrics.

Amanda Black / Sun El Musician | 3 March

Amanda Benedicta Antony, popularly known by her stage name Amanda Black, is a South African singer-songwriter and recording artist who achieved recognition in 2016 following the release of her hit single "Amazulu", which was nominated in several music awards.

Sun El is an electronic, disco, funk, and soulful music producer and disc jockey.

Matthew Mole | 10 March

Matthew Mole is a South African artist, hailing from the sunny city of Cape Town.

Spoegwolf / Jan Blohm | 17 March

Spoegwolf is a Afrikaans music group from Paarl in Cape Town. The group comprises of Moskou du Toit on drums and percussion, Chris von Wielligh on guitar and piano, Albert van der Merwe on bass and Danie du Toit on guitar.

Jan writes about things he knows and has experienced, his music transcends boarders as he sings and writes in both English and Afrikaans with his native tongue being Afrikaans.

Shortstraw / Bam Bam Brown | 24 March

Shortstraw are a band from Joburg. They make music. Music that sounds like someone blowing on a cup of tea that's too hot. Music that sounds like a pot of bolognese bubbling in the background.

Kieron "Bam Bam" Brown is no stranger to danger. Too much hip to shake and too much earth in his quake, he can be found in the dusty basements of colour cornucopias, amidst a rush of steaming whizzes,whooshes and whollops... Strain your ears enough and you may hear the gears turning in his kaleidoscope ear, and, given time. A song will find you.

Goodluck / Easy Freak | 31 March

In just over 4 years GoodLuck have gone from knowing very little about electronic music to recording their sophomore album outside. In the desert. Using only the sun to power their infectious beats.

With a natural fusion of pop, electro, funk and soul, Easy Freak are setting the South African music scene alight. The Durban duo made up of Dom Hurd and Jude Kenrick have unequivocally been making waves and getting crowds moving to a fresh and unique sound.
